Joomla 2.5.4 was published (announced in the previous week)

The Joomla Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Joomla 2.5.4. This time it's not only security release. Beacuse this release contains: 3 new features added and 157 tracker issues fixed (include two security issues fixed).

New Features Added

The following new features have been added, with links to the Feature tracker issue.

  • Add option to show full CMS version number in generator tag (Mark Dexter) - the parameter defaults is set to No (to show the tag) but can be set to Yes to show version number. The only reason (I suppose) to allow this is to allow Google Webmaster Tools to automatically notify site admins when their Joomla versions are out of date. Previously this feature had only been available to WordPress users. On the other hand, many people may turn it on and in this way everyone will see that someone is using an old version of CMS exposing themselves to attack. In my private view, unnecessary patch.

  • Implementing Access levels for Content Languages (JM Simonet, Dennis Hermatski, Christophe Demko) - it reserve access to specific languages to certain groups of users.
  • Make the auto-update process more reliable across different hosts (Nicholas Dionysopoulos) - this feature proposes a new admin component (com_joomlaupdate) that will incorporate the strategy used successfully by Admin Tools to allow updates to be processed in multiple request cycles. This allows the auto-update to work on slower hosts and hosts with other restrictions. At least.

Security Issues Fixed

  • Low Priority - Core - Information Disclosure.
  • Low Priority - Core - XSS Vulnerability.
